What the Star says upright

Upright, this is the calm after a storm. The hope here is the return of your own sense of direction rather than optimism about a particular outcome. People often meet this card in the weeks after a diagnosis or a hard ending, when ordinary things start to feel possible again.

The two jugs carry the idea of giving and receiving at the same time. The Star turns up when someone is recovering and also helping others, and it suggests both belong to the healing. The card is generous without being self sacrificing.

It also favours the long view. Whatever you are rebuilding will take time, and the Star is content with that. There is no deadline in the picture, only water and a person doing the next honest thing.

What the Star says reversed

Reversed, the sky closes in. This is the card of lost faith, either in a future you had been working towards or in yourself. It often appears when someone has been trying for a long time and the effort no longer feels connected to any result.

There is another reading. Reversed, the Star can mark the point where you have stopped taking care of yourself, when rest and company have been dropped in favour of pushing harder. It usually means the well is empty and needs filling first.
