The Moon names the state of not knowing yet: a suspicion you cannot prove, or a mood that colours everything without leaving a reason behind. What the Moon says upright

Upright, this is the card of the unclear picture. Something is being hidden, or you are filling a gap with fear, or both. The Moon rarely means anyone is lying; more often it means nobody has enough information yet, including you. Dreams and gut feelings come up strongly under this card, and they often carry more than the surface facts do.

The dog and the wolf suggest the tame and the wild responses sitting side by side: the polite reaction and the instinct you would rather not admit to. When the Moon appears about a relationship or a decision, the honest answer is often that time will tell, and the useful work is noticing what you are projecting onto the dark.

What the Moon says reversed

Reversed, the fog starts to clear. Misunderstandings get explained, and an anxiety that ran the show for weeks is finally named. It can arrive as plain relief, without any dramatic reveal, and it often comes with the realisation that you knew more than you were letting yourself know.

The other side of the reversal is self-deception. If you have decided what you want the truth to be, this card suggests checking that. The clearest version of the Moon reversed is the point where something confusing stops being frightening and becomes a fact you can work with.

Next to the High Priestess, the Moon deepens: both cards point at intuition and hidden knowledge, and the reading usually asks what is being kept back. With the Sun the picture comes into the open. Beside the Seven of Cups the same fog produces wishful thinking rather than insight.
