Upright, this card is about expansion and the patience it takes. Something you started is now in the world: an application sent, a proposal delivered, goods on a ship, a first version of the work released. There is nothing left to push, so the useful thing is to keep watching and plan the next step while you wait.

It also carries a wider view. When the reading is about work or trade, the card often points outward, to another city, another market, or people you have not met yet. Reading the market, learning a language, or keeping in touch with the people who might send work your way all count as useful work in this card’s terms. The ships carry what the figure already sent, so the card tends to reward people who act first and then hold their nerve.

Reversed, the ships do not come back, or they are late. Plans stall, answers take longer than promised, and you start second-guessing a decision that was reasonable when you made it. It can also point to the opposite failure: keeping everything close to home out of caution, so nothing ever gets sent.
